Shredding the screen.

The coronavirus has spoilt our end of the ski season.
You might think that my motto – “The season never ends” – has just become obsolete…
Not at all! I decided to continue the season virtually and so I did a small review of ski games for Android.
For testing I have selected 10 applications from the Google Play store.

1️⃣ Ski Legends
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…
📈Google Play score: 4,1/5

A Slovak game, with very nice graphics, pleasant “playability” and the names of authentic resorts. The game mechanics, however, are typical for mobile games. We gain points for racing with opponents, unlock features with coins and crystals and improve our character. Those who want to shortcut can change real money into virtual cash through in-app purchases. After each race, we get bonuses, coins, special offers and other stuff, which can piss off those who just want to ski. The game is likely to be enjoyed by those who go into mountains to queue, listen to shitty music, buy souvenirs, eat hot-dogs, drink beer; generally do a lot of different things other than skiing.

2️⃣ Skiing Yeti Mountain
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…
📈Google Play score: 4,7/5

Despite the word “skiing” in the name, the game could very well be about canoeing, cycling, ballooning or anything else. Visually primitive, the game focuses on mindless sliding down and avoiding obstacles. Along the way, we meet various characters that add some kind of “plot” to the gameplay. This does not mean that the game is not addictive – yes, it is, in the same way as “Flappy Bird” used to be. App is ideal for waiting at the dentist or before a colonoscopy, as it helps you get used to the pain …

3️⃣ Grand Mountain Adventure
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…
📈Google Play score: 4,2/5

The advantage of this Swedish game is an open world and the ability to ride freely throughout the ski resort. We can go down the slopes in a recreational way or on a a race course with time measurement. You can ride off the slope and ski through the woods, jump from cliffs, do tricks, fall into an avalanche, etc. You can even meet bears which somehow run around instead of sleeping… After skiing down, we get on the lift, which brings us up. As we complete subsequent tasks, we gain points that allow us to unlock new slopes and lifts. The game contains several fictitious resorts, but you can ski for free only in one – the Austrian Hirschalm. It works on a phone with a large screen, because the graphics are very detailed and the skiers are very, very tiny 😊

4️⃣ Ski Freestyle Mountain
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…
📈Google Play score: 4,2/5

A game that involves playing in a snowpark – our reckless skier, who is not wearing a helmet, rides down and perform tricks. Don’t be fooled by the high ratings – we can even build our own snowpark here, but the game has graphics straight from the 90s, and the skier moves with the grace of a dummy. The app may attract the owners of the HTC Dream phone with Android 1.0, because there is a chance that it will run on their phones…

5️⃣ World Cup Ski Racing
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…
📈Google Play score: 2,8/5

This game has almost everything to be the coolest ski app: blessed by FIS (this is the official federation game), featuring interesting slopes in actual World Cup locations, real brands and equipment models. It also has online events where we can race against other players. Low ratings are mainly due to the fact that hardly anyone can play the game – even on fairly strong phones it freezes and works very slowly, which actually makes it unable to play. It’s a pity. I once saw a snowboarder wearing a “Fuck FIS” sweatshirt. I was wondering what he had to do with this noble institution, but now I know that he probably also tried to play WCSR…

6️⃣ Just Freeskiing – Freestyle Ski Action
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…
📈Google Play score: 3,8/5

Quite a nice game featuring freestyle disciplines: slopestyle, halfpipe, big air. \you can enjoy them peacefully, at home, without the risk of making a fool of yourself on a real slope. It also features actual locations, and the bottom Laax station looks just like the real one

7️⃣ Red Bull Free Skiing
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…
📈Google Play score: 3,8/5

This app, branded by Red Bull, also features freestyle skiing, this time at Ski Amade resort. The game is quite fun and the graphics please the eye. We can also enjoy skiing equipment from several actual brands. The game has some annoying features typical of mobile games – unlocking characters, clothes, coins and other such bullshit. However, this should not bother Red Bull fans, since they were convinced that drinking caffeine orangeade is a lifestyle

8️⃣ Alpine Ski III
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…
📈Google Play score: 3,8/5

An outrageously primitive game: a simulator of skiing through the forest, looking for a place to pee…

9️⃣ Ski Online Challenge 20 (OC:20)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…
📈Google Play score: 4,4/5
This game has positively surprised me. It doesn’t offer any sophisticated career modes, coins and crystals. Generally, the goal is to get down as soon as possible, competing with ourselves or players from the network. A big advantage is the view during the game (from behind the player or from the “camera on the helmet”) and control (by tilting the phone). This gives us a very pleasant, dynamic feel of actual ski run. For this reason, in order to really get through the slope well, it is important to get to know it – all the jumps, turns and bends. Of all ten games, I consider this one to be the most “ski” one.   👍

🔟 Ski Champion
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…
📈Google Play score: 3,5/5

This game has a very narrow target group. That would be those, who fell into a coma around 1990 , woke up nowadays and it was the very first video game they saw. Everyone else will be offended by this game – especially game lovers (due to primitive physics) and skiers (for a similar reason). The developers were insolent enough to put micropayments in the game, although in my opinion the only way for the game will make any money if there is charge for uninstalling it.

I to wszystko. Na dalsze testy nie miałem już siły, bo wirtualne szusowanie potęgowało moją tęsknotę za prawdziwym, zimnym śniegiem
